SIN
Hello, friends greetings to you all in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Today we are going to meditate on the topic "SIN". In Hebrew, Sin is termed as hata which means “missing the mark.” We all are familiar with what sin is. We can list out the sins such as Disobedience, Jealousy, Pride, Idolatry, Being unfaithful in relationships, and not doing good to others. But this Lent is the time to reconcile and give up our sins and begins a holy and fruitful life in God. For that, we need to turn our focus, to which is the starting point of sin?
FOUNDATION OF SIN
“Misunderstanding/
A failure to commit to understanding God is the foundation of Sin.”
In Genesis 3, the serpent questions Eve. But the responding action of Eve and Adam ended against the command of God.
Even though God had told them not to eat that fruit, why did their attention turn
towards that fruit? Probably, Doubt or despair that God has deceived them ... Although
they enjoy various fruits and other features of Eden; they fall into sin without
complete faith in God who gave them and created them. God gave everything to the
couple. To God, who has given all, how much is it for Him to give that only one;
But they were unable to comprehend the reason for saying “No”. Perhaps it would have been much better if the Lord had been questioned and answered the question of what the reason was.
If we sail on the same boat, looking
for shortcuts to make our own lives safer, even if we are getting blessings and
realizing God in many aspects of our personal lives, the answer will be the
same, i.e., either misunderstanding or refusing to commit to an understanding
about our God.
In Romans 8:32-39, we see the perfect
understanding of the author about God. Verse 32, says, “He who did not withhold
his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else?”(NRSV).
FORMATION OF SIN
“Without
the involvement of humans, Sin is not fulfilled”
Did the question of the serpent complete the
sin? It is the very beginning point. But the responding actions of the couple
Adam and Eve played a hard role. Sin can never come to us without our
contribution. There is no space for the thing which is told: “don’t/ Not to.” When
it is said, No. It is always not to. But they turned their sights on that tree
and its fruit. She found that as good for food, a delight to the eyes. Then the fruit was picked and tested by both. James 1:13-15 clearly explains how sin comes to
an individual.
“No one, when tempted, should say, “I am
being tempted by God,”; for God cannot be tempted by evil; and he himself tempts.
no one. But one is tempted by one’s own desire, being
lured and enticed by it; then, when that desire has
conceived, it gives birth to sin; and that sin, when it is fully grown, gives.
birth to death.” (James
1:13-15, NRSV)
SINS FORGIVEN
“Without the involvement of humans, the Salvation cannot be accomplished”
After everything is over, God enquiries about
the incident that happened. Adam put on stories to God without confession. He blamed
God, by addressing the Eve thou art given to me. This unrealized nature brought
a gap between God and themselves. It paved the way for losing superiority. Let us
consider whether we too have such a mind.
God hates Sin, not the Sinner. In-depth, humankind went far away from the presence of God. But the presence
of God came down to the earth as Jesus Christ. Christ satisfied the will of God
by sacrificing his own body on the Cross and shedding the blood for all of us.
There is no way
This is the right time we have to
reconcile, confess to God about our committed sins. Then only we can start a
fresh new life. Otherwise…?
Since the word of God shouts:
“No
One who conceals transgressions will prosper. But one who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.”(Proverbs 28:13, NRSV)
