Worship
Dear friends in Christ,
It’s a great joy and
privilege to write on this blog in the Lenten days. I thank God for giving me
this opportunity.
Love is common to all creation. All living things in the world are
structured by love. There are also people who worship beyond love. That can be
his wife, husband, children, loved ones, even our favourite leaders. Worship is
a symbol of love and above all. Who doesn’t like it when others praise
us?
Worship is a wonderful experience in the divine life. It is essential in
all religions. People of all religions worship their god as he/she pleases. In
Christianity, worship is the most important one than other religions.
Christians tend to be more mindful of it. Because our Lord God is very much
admiring of our worship and glorified Himself.
The English word ‘worship’ comes from old English words: ‘worth,’
which means “worth” and ‘scipe’ or ‘ship,’ which means
something like shape or quality. When we worship, we are saying that God has
worth, that He is worthy. Worship means to declare worth, to attribute worth.
Scripture says, “YOU ARE A CHOSEN PEOPLE, A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY
NATION, A PEOPLE BELONGING TO GOD, THAT YOU MAY DECLARE THE PRAISES OF HIM WHO
CALLED YOU OUT OF THE DARKNESS INTO HIS WONDERFUL LIGHT” (1 PETER 2:9)
Worships are not only just a matter of an hour or two, but worship
covers the full life of the worshiper. Human beings always stand before God to
present their whole life to Him. Humans see themselves as a part of God’s
creation and offer themselves and all that they have in dedication to their
creator. Every area of life belongs to the kingdom of God.
Nowadays, the youngsters think that worship is just singing songs,
shouting, dancing, light, music, so and so. Music is important, but worship is
not just music it involves our entire relationship with God, all our heart,
mind, soul and strength.
Genesis 4 tells us that, ‘Cain and Abel brought an offering to the Lord.’
In the course of time Cain brought of the Lord an
offering of the fruit of the ground, and Abel for his part brought of the
firstlings of his flock, their fat portion. (Genesis 4:3, 4)
Here the word “offering” they make is also a symbol of worship. Worship can be done in many different ways as well, but it must be done meaningfully. From the Old Testament to New Testament, all saints have been interested in the worship of God. Every human being has worshipped and glorified the Lord. Even though our Lord Jesus Christ is also an exception.
Jesus and Worship
The Gospel according to Luke Chapter 4 verse 16 says
“When He (Jesus)
came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, He went to the synagogue on the
Sabbath day as was His custom. He stood up to read…,”
Although He went to Jerusalem for the annual
festival, most of His worship was done away from the temple. We know that He
went to the synagogue, where He would read and explain Scripture. He prayed, in
private and in public, and He sang songs.
God sent His only begotten Son to teach us, how to
live and how to worship God. Let us walk in the way he taught. In the
fast-paced world, we are running out of time and desire to worship the Lord.
Dear friends, let us worship and adore the Lord who made us. Finally The Letter
of Paul to the Romans, “I APPEAL TO YOU, THEREFORE, BROTHERS AND SISTERS,
BY THE MERCIES OF GOD, HOLY AND ACCEPTABLE TO GOD, WHICH IS YOUR SPIRITUAL
WORSHIP. (ROMANS 12:1)
May God Himself, who is worthy of worship,
Bless you all
